We made the April Fuji journey, and we made this one. The same mountain, and not a single arrangement shared between them — which is perhaps the clearest illustration of what “no second one” means.

The skeleton

  • Day 1 — Reach Lake Yamanaka by afternoon; stay on the east shore (backlit after noon, when the mountain reads clearest)
  • Day 2 — The lakeside maple corridor at first light; the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi in the afternoon, outside the coach hours
  • Day 3 — Morning mist at Oshino Hakkai; the afternoon spent not leaving the fireplace
  • Day 4 — One last look at the mountain before the road home

House rules of this journey

Autumn weather turns; each day is fixed by the previous evening’s forecast. We do not chase peak-colour dates — we chase the hours when nobody is there.

This is the skeleton of a journey that happened exactly once. Yours will begin from a blank page.

Shall we draw yours?
