Australia without trying to collect it all
Distances are the first design decision. Rather than joining Sydney, Uluru, the reef and Tasmania in one hurried line, we choose one region and let its seasons, producers and landscapes set the pace.
Tasmania works especially well for private travel
- A Hobart base with a private architecture, art or produce specialist
- Bruny Island after the day traffic has turned back
- Two or three nights at a wilderness lodge, with walks chosen each morning
- The east coast through small vineyards and marine reserves, not a nightly hotel change
Mainland extensions can be added when the connection is worth a flight: the Flinders Ranges with a geologist, or a private station stay beyond the usual touring circuit.
