Europe · small regions, slow crossings

Europe

The Soča Valley, Istrian hill towns, Lofoten fishing villages and other corners best connected by local knowledge rather than a capital-city checklist.

Europe works best at the scale of a region

We do not treat Europe as a race between capitals. A private journey might follow one river across a border, join a rural rail line to a driver, or stay long enough for a host to introduce the landscape beyond the hotel.

Routes with a point of view

  • Slovenia’s Soča Valley into Goriška Brda and Istria, balancing walking, wine and small inns
  • Lofoten in the winter cod season, with weather days and a working-harbour guide
  • The Ligurian interior behind the coast, using village kitchens and walking paths rather than day-trip crowds
  • Provence outside lavender season, built around markets, ceramic studios and private gardens

European rail is used where it improves the day; a driver joins where luggage, timing or a rural connection makes the difference.
