The subtraction of luggage

Why we always suggest one less coat — packing and itineraries are the same discipline.

How you pack and how you plan turn out to be the same skill. An overstuffed suitcase and an overstuffed schedule fail in the same way: no room left.

The coat you left behind

We suggest one less coat not for lightness, but to keep a seat open for what the road offers. A scarf bought in a Kanazawa market carries the temperature of that morning; the one from home carries nothing.

A third of the suitcase empty, a third of the itinerary empty — we talk about both in the very first conversation.
