In New Zealand, a weather day is not an empty day
How to protect a Fiordland journey without filling the calendar with backup attractions.

In Fiordland, low cloud can close a scenic flight while making every waterfall stronger. A good itinerary should recognise both facts.
Keep one important day movable
We do not create a second, inferior programme called “the rain plan”. We keep one major experience without a fixed date, then build two excellent ground days around it. The guide, vehicle and lodge know the order may change.
- Never place the only flight on the departure morning
- Avoid two weather-sensitive activities on consecutive days
- Stay where a slow day is still worth having
The result is not a loose itinerary. It is a resilient one.
