Lofoten during the working winter

A February journey built around the cod season, a restored rorbu and the rhythm of a real fishing harbour.

The travellers did not ask for the northern lights. They wanted to understand why people still live and work in Lofoten through winter.

The skeleton

  • Three nights in one restored rorbu near a working harbour
  • A harbour walk with a former fisher, scheduled after the morning boats return
  • One weather-held day for a small-boat trip or a shore-based alternative
  • Two nights farther east, reached only after the road forecast was checked

The rule

No midnight aurora chase and no daily change of village. If the sky cleared, the lights could be watched from the cabin; the journey did not depend on them appearing.

This is the skeleton of a journey that happened exactly once. Yours will begin from a blank page.
