The request was not “see more of New Zealand”. It was to spend time on the water without joining a large cruise and without gambling the whole journey on one flight.
The skeleton
- Three nights near Glenorchy, with two possible walking valleys
- Lake Manapouri transfer and two nights aboard a small Fiordland vessel
- One completely movable day before continuing south
- Two nights in the Catlins, with the coast ordered by tide and wind
The decision that mattered
The scenic flight remained optional. When cloud stayed low, the private naturalist moved the long walk forward and the flight shifted by forty-eight hours. Nothing had to be cancelled; the route had been designed to bend.
This is the skeleton of a journey that happened exactly once. Yours will begin from a blank page.
